A small digital resource focusing on women’s voices and experiences of the Civil Wars, with source extracts, images and mini-biographies.
This was one of my very first experiments in creating an online resource around early modern primary sources. It also reflected one of my earliest research projects; as an MA student I had become interested in Alice Thornton, a 17th-century Yorkshire gentlewoman who wrote a vivid autobiography covering her experiences of the Civil Wars. This extended into exploring other mid-17th-century British women’s autobiographical narratives.
It’s a simple HTML site which I created in about 2001. It has been online ever since with little change in content, although it has had at least one visual redesign since then.
